11:45 a.m., Aug. 20, 2010----A variety of activities have been planned for University of Delaware students as they return to campus and before fall semester classes begin at 8 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 31.
New students will move in on Saturday, Aug. 28, and that evening they are invited to attend Campus Breakout from 8:30 p.m. to midnight with events at the Perkins Student Center, the Trabant University Center and the North Green.
Campus Breakout provides an opportunity for new students to move about the campus and to meet other new students. Campus Breakout events are for new students only.
The headliner for this year's event is comedian Daniel Tosh, whose popular show Tosh.0 airs on Comedy Central. Tosh will perform at 11:15 p.m. under a tent on The Green; this event is open only to new students.
Opening for Tosh at the tent will be Damian the Hypnotist, who will perform at 9:30 p.m.; comedian Matt Fulchiron, who will perform at 10:45; and comedian Jasper Redd, who will perform at 11.
Also on The Green, the movie Iron Man 2 will be shown at 8:30 p.m.
From 8:30 to 11, the Trabant University Center will feature a band, balloon animals, body art, laser tag, bumper stickers and Register Student Organization (RSO) activities. Through that same time period, Perkins Student Center will feature a band, caricature artist and superhero photos.

Convocations
UD will hold two Convocations on Monday, Aug. 30. New Student Convocation, which includes lunch and the Class of 2014 banner signing, will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Bob Carpenter Center.
Graduate Student Convocation will be held at 4 p.m. in Mitchell Hall.
Author Tracy Kidder to speak
This year, UD's first year common reader was Strength in What Remains by Pulitzer Prize-winner Tracy Kidder.
Kidder will speak to UD freshmen at 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 1, in Mitchell Hall.

Activities nights
Activities Nights, during which students both new and returning can learn more about various organizations on campus, will be held Sunday, Aug. 29, and Monday, Aug. 30.
The first is Student Organization Activities Night, which will be held from 7-9:30 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 29, on the North Green.
Sports and Recreation Activities Night will be held from 6-8 p.m., Monday, Aug. 30, in the gymnasium of the Carpenter Sports Building, and Fraternity and Sorority Activities Night will be held from 7-9 p.m., Aug. 30, in the Multipurpose Rooms of the Trabant University Center.

Athletics
The first football game of the season will be played at 7 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 2, on Tubby Raymond Field at Delaware Stadium when the Fightin' Blue Hens tackle West Chester University.
