9:21 a.m., Aug. 17, 2010----The University of Delaware is listed as the eighth national up-and-coming university in the 2011 edition of America's Best Colleges by U.S. News Media Group. For this category, which is new this year, college administrators were asked to nominate institutions they think have recently made the most promising and innovative changes in the areas of academics, faculty, student life, campus or facilities. In all, 68 schools were chosen for this distinction.

In the standard listing of the nation's top public universities, UD is ranked 32nd, along with Indiana University Bloomington.

Now available on the U.S. News website, the ranking of more than 1,400 other schools nationwide will be published in the September issue of U.S. News & World Report magazine, on sale starting Aug. 31.

UD is ranked 75th among all national universities, both public and private, and is tied with Brigham Young University, Indiana University Bloomington and Marquette University. Top spots in the rankings go to Harvard, Princeton, Yale and Columbia, followed by Stanford and the University of Pennsylvania, tied at fifth.

In a section on best undergraduate engineering programs in schools whose highest degree is a doctorate, UD is listed at 52, tied with the Colorado School of Mines, Drexel University and the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

Delaware is also cited among the “A-Plus Schools for B Students.”

Factors used to determine the rankings include peer assessment, graduation and retention rates, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources, alumni giving, graduation rate performance and, for the first time this year, high school counselor ratings of colleges.
