The UD Bank of America Career Services Center (CSC) helps to place hundreds of students each year in internship programs. However, according to Joyce Henderson, assistant director of employer outreach at the CSC, Ghosh's accomplishment is extraordinary.

“Bhaskar is the very first UD student to obtain an internship with Case New Holland and this potentially opens the doors for future UD students,” she said.

Henderson encourages international students to take advantage of the professional development workshops offered by the CSC on such topics as understanding your visa, job search strategies and interview preparation.

According to Henderson, the Going Global database is an excellent starting point for international students to identify employers who have in the past offered H1 B visas. Blue Hen Jobs, a database specifically for UD students, also offers connections to over 200 employers who hire international students.

Start early, remain positive

“International students should meet with their career adviser if they have any questions about the job search,” said Henderson. “We also encourage international students to start early, develop a plan to conduct how they will approach their job search and remain positive.”

Ghosh, who is from India, is an international student who did just that.

He began his internship search by talking with Henderson, as well as Paul Rollison, the assistant director of the Lerner College Career Services Center. He also started early and stayed positive through his search.

“Even though I was looking for a summer internship, I started sending out applications in September to a number of companies,” said Ghosh. “I also attended a career fair sponsored by the CSC, and it was there that I met the Case New Holland recruiter. I gave her my business card and she actually ended up acting as a reference for me during the interview process.”

At the end of his internship search, Ghosh had three options from which to choose.

“I had offers with Comcast, Case New Holland and a consulting company in Dallas,” he said. “I decided to go with Case New Holland because of the scope of their intern program and because the job was most closely related to my interests in strategy and analytics.”

During his internship, Ghosh has been stationed at the company's agricultural plant headquarters in New Holland, Pa. His responsibilities have covered the warranty management and capacity management areas of the company. He has examined the scope of areas of improvement in Case New Holland's warranty management system and has used his SAP knowledge to point out key areas for improvement.

In the coming months, Ghosh will monitor the efficiency of the parts return process as well analyze the capacity management of the warranty claims system.

“Overall, it has been a great experience,” said Ghosh. “The company has small sessions for interns to meet higher officials, and they have also been willing to offer accommodations in terms of lodging and travel. Most importantly, though, I am gaining experience in the field I am most interested in.”

Ghosh recently learned that he will be able to continue his experience with the company beyond the summer.

“I recently made a presentation to company officials about the UD MBA Corporate Associate Program and the response was so positive that they converted my internship to a corporate associate position that I will continue in this fall,” said Ghosh.

Like Henderson, Ghosh encourages students seeking internships to begin their searches as early as possible.

“Start applying in September if you can,” said Ghosh. “You may end up having multiple rounds of interviews that are scheduled over time, and it can be early spring before you have a final response from a company.”
