8:06 a.m., Aug. 18, 2010----The University of Delaware will launch a new Advanced Project Management Certificate in February 2011. The program enlarges and extends UD's Project Management Certificate, which has been offered for nearly 20 years.
Both programs are offered by the Division of Professional and Continuing Studies in partnership with the Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics.
The University of Delaware has been approved as a Registered Education Provider (REP) of project management training by the Project Management Institute (PMI).
The Advanced Project Management Certificate teaches in-depth tools and skills that every project manager needs -- financial control of projects, project risk assessment and risk management, negotiation, and conflict management and resolution.
In addition, students will extend and develop new skills in the management of virtual teams, advancement of project maturity, standardization of project management in companies, and organization for project management.
Advanced training in the use of Microsoft Project is incorporated into these lectures and case studies.
This is a hands-on, practical certificate that not only provides instruction in advanced project management skills but also builds the participants' skills in working with and through others. Participants work in teams on several cases, make presentations, and prepare written reports.
The instructors are all experts in their fields and bring pragmatic information and insights to the classroom.
The Advanced Certificate is structured to provide continuing professional education for those experienced in project management who want to expand their knowledge and horizons. Those new to project management or with limited experience in the field should consider first taking the UD Project Management Certificate.
The certificate consists of 42 hours of instruction and can be completed in less than four months. It is offered at the University of Delaware Downtown Center at 8th and King streets in Wilmington, Del. The cost of the program is $3,495. Enrollment is limited to 20 participants.
Project management is a growing management profession both globally and domestically. It is increasingly recognized as a universally applicable management procedure that transcends national boundaries and can be applied in any culture.
Both experience and research come to the same conclusion: project management works. Demand for project managers is growing, and the salaries of project managers reflect this trend.
