2:13 p.m., April 14, 2011--The 2011 INBRE Core Open House will be held Friday, April 22, 9 a.m.–3 p.m., at the John H. Ammon Medical Education Center on the Christiana Care Health System campus.

“Our goal for this year’s Core Open House is to inspire not only research ideas but encourage communication, networking and the creation of an open forum for generating the latest scientific breakthroughs using available skills and equipment already here in Delaware,” says Rebekah Helton, research associate with the Delaware Biotechnology Institute Bio-Imaging Center and the Center for Translational Cancer Research Center Core Facility at UD. Helton serves on the organizing committee for the event with Katia Sol-Church and Terry Pedicone, both from Nemours/A. I. duPont Hospital for Children.

Events Stories

June 5: Blue Hen 5K

University of Delaware graduates planning to attend Alumni Weekend are encouraged to register for the annual Blue Hen 5K walk and run, which will be held Sunday morning, June 5.

June 6-9: Food and culture series

The 20th annual June Lecture Series at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UD in Wilmington will be held June 6-9. Titled 'June a la Carte,' this year's program focuses on great political documents, feminism, world politics and a Newark cuisine sampler.

The event is designed to present an overview of the life science core equipment and services available at the Delaware IDeA Network of Biomedical Research Excellence (INBRE) partner institutions. Advance registration is required at this website.

The open house will provide researchers with access to the directors and staff of the 12 INBRE Cores (listed below) in one convenient location. Guest speakers from UD — Karl Steiner, senior associate provost for research, and Melinda Duncan, professor of biological sciences — will describe how core facilities impact Delaware and their research programs.

Attendees will have the opportunity to discuss projects with core facility staff, find out about cutting-edge technologies, and learn about the latest product offerings from vendors. Three door prizes — $1,000 fee waivers for free services at the core facility of the winner’s choice — will be awarded.

The following INBRE Cores will participate, with one or more staff on hand to discuss available technologies:

  • Christiana Care Center for Outcomes Research
  • Delaware Biotechnology Institute Bioinformatics Center
  • Biomolecular Core Laboratory, Nemours
  • UD Sequencing and Genotyping Center
  • Bioinformatics Core Facility, Nemours
