Montes is a freshman with a medical technology interest who graduated as valedictorian of her class and is a National Hispanic Recognition Program Scholar. She is also in the Honors Program at UD.

Valasquez is a sophomore public policy major who volunteers for AYUDA (American Youth Understanding Diabetes Abroad) and has participated in programs abroad that have worked to provide services to children with diabetes.

The students were chosen by UD staff including representatives of Admissions, Student Life and the Hispanic/ Latino Heritage Caucus and then chosen from a pool of other students who had also been recommended.

Montes and Valasquez and their families have been invited to a reception in October hosted by WPVI, and both of the students will receive a plaque noting their achievement.
