8:41 a.m., Sept. 21, 2009----The University of Delaware Library will present six workshops on specialized resources during the fall semester -- workshops on powerful databases such as Web of Science, and ARTstor will be offered, as well as workshops to assist library users conducting citation analysis or genealogical research.
The workshops are as follows:
Getting the Most from the Web of Science: The Web of Science database allows users to see how often particular articles and authors have been cited and provides access to research in a wide array of disciplines. The workshop covers research techniques to analyze the citation history of articles and ways to use Get It!, the document retrieval system that works in conjunction with Web of Science.
Time: Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2- 3:30 p.m.
Location: Library Instruction Room (116A), Morris Library, First Floor
Presenter: Thomas Melvin, librarian
Citation Searching: Beyond Web of Science: For many years Web of Science was the only index that permitted effective citation searching; however, in recent years many other sites in the social sciences and humanities have enabled citation searching. This workshop will focus on those databases, online journals and websites that facilitate citation searching. The workshop is open to graduate students and faculty in all disciplines, including the sciences, social sciences, arts and humanities.
Time: Thursday, Oct. 15, 10-11 a.m.
Location: Library Instruction Room (116A), Morris Library, First Floor
Presenter: Carol Rudisell, librarian
Teaching and Learning with Images: Introduction to ARTstor: ARTstor is a digital library of nearly one million images in the areas of art, architecture, the humanities, and social sciences. This workshop will show participants how to search for images, create and manage image groups, add images, and download images for use in presentations. This workshop will be offered twice during the fall semester.
Time: Thursday, Sept. 24, 2-3:30 p.m.
Location: Library Instruction Room (116A), Morris Library, First Floor
Presenter: Susan Davi, associate librarian
Time: Wednesday, Oct. 14, 10:30 a.m.-noon.
Location: Library Instruction Room (116A), Morris Library, First Floor
Presenter: Susan Davi, associate librarian
Teaching and Learning with Images: Advanced Uses of ARTstor: This workshop will focus on creating, managing, and using image folders to support classroom learning. It will also cover advanced capabilities of the ARTstor Offline Image Viewer (OIV) for classroom use. This workshop is aimed at faculty and graduate students of all disciplines who may be teaching using images.
Time: Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2- 3:30 p.m.
Location: Library Instruction Room (116A), Morris Library, First Floor
Presenter: Susan Davi, associate librarian
The workshops are available at no charge and are open to University of Delaware students, faculty, and staff. Seating is limited and registration is required, and can be completed online.
Questions about the workshops may be sent to the library via e-mail to [lib-workshops@udel.edu] or answered by calling (302) 831-2432.
