The seminar is titled "Born to Run -- Secrets of the World's Greatest Ultrarunners.” The presentation, which is free and open to the community, is part of a Biomechanics and Movement Science Seminar.

There will be a book signing following the seminar.

McDougall is a former war correspondent for the Associated Press and is now a contributing editor for Men's Health magazine.

A three-time National Magazine Award finalist, he has written for Esquire, The New York Times Magazine, Outside and Men's Journal.

He graduated from Harvard University in 1985, and now does his own running among the Amish farms around his home in rural Pennsylvania.

His bestselling new book, Born to Run, examines the fabulous athletic feats of the Tarahumara Indians of Mexico's Copper Canyons and delves into breaking research that humans -- all humans -- are potentially the greatest long-distance runners on earth.

"This book is a captivating and true story filled with colorful characters interwoven with biomechanics and evolution,” said Irene Davis, UD professor of physical therapy and director of research for the Drayer Physical Therapy Institute. “It may transform the way we think about footwear and running."

Davis added that because of the book, she is now running barefoot.
