Ten of the stories will be selected and described in short vignette format during the UD Campus Sustainability Day lunch event, Wednesday, Oct. 21.

The following are examples of success stories:

Students for the Environment (S4E) held at least three clothing swaps last year, including one during Earth Week and another one during GreenFest. Based on the success of the swaps, S4E is planning to make clothing swaps a regular event. Clothing items that are not swapped for reuse are donated to charity.

In the Publications Department, now part of the Office of Communications and Marketing (OCM), the office printer uses recycled toner cartridges, which are recycled through the University's program. Members of the office staff, who use only half of the available fluorescent lights, routinely travel to meetings or deliver proofs on campus on a bicycle.

With funding from the University's Academic and Student Affairs Council, teams of students, staff and faculty have twice attended the ACPA Institute on Sustainability at Harvard University. The teams, using knowledge gained at the Institute, have returned to campus and implemented activities, such as Campus Sustainability Day and Earth Week Sustainability Awareness.

Concise stories of not more than two paragraphs in length should be submitted to Kathleen Kerr or John Madsen, co-chairpersons of the UD Sustainability Task Force, at [ud-sustainability@udel.edu] no later than Wednesday, Oct. 7.
