Splane has been a University of Delaware employee since 1994. Prior to that, she volunteered with Cooperative Extension for almost a decade, including as a master food educator. She received her master's degree in health promotion in 2006. As part of her graduate studies, Splane developed a nutrition curriculum for youth, which has since been implemented at 4-H afterschool clubs and other youth organizations throughout the state.

“Kathleen is known for the quality of her work, her positive attitude and her ability to work well with others. I know she will do a great job in this new role,” said Jan Seitz, associate dean of the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources and director of UD Cooperative Extension.

UD Cooperative Extension family and consumer science programs encompass a wide range of areas, including financial planning, family relationships, heart-healthy and diabetic classes, new parent education, obesity prevention and much more.

“In these challenging economic times, more Delawareans are turning to Extension for support and guidance,” said Seitz. “UD educators can help with everything from money management strategies to family relationships during stressful times. Kathleen and the entire Family and Consumer Science Team are serving a vital need in communities throughout our state.”
