1:51 p.m., Sept. 4, 2009----Edward James Olmos, a noted actor, artist and lecturer, will speak Thursday, Sept. 24, at the University of Delaware as part of the 10th annual Latino Heritage Month opening ceremony.

The lecture will begin at 7 p.m. in the Multipurpose Rooms of the Trabant University Center, and is free and open to the public. The doors will open at 6:30 p.m.

Olmos is a multi-talented actor perhaps best known for his roles in the films My Family/ Mi Familia, Stand and Deliver, Selena and 12 Angry Men.

He currently plays Commander William Adama on the series Battlestar Galactica.

Olmos is also a distinguished humanitarian who spends considerable time and money supporting various causes and charitable organizations. He advocates for Latino culture and organizes special projects in his native Los Angeles.

The lecture is sponsored by the University's Center for Black Culture and Multicultural Programs.

Other co-sponsors include La Raza, HOLA, National Association of Latino Fraternal Organizations, Office of the Dean of Students, Residence Life, Student Centers, Office of Equity and Inclusion, Commission to Promote Racial and Cultural Diversity, and the Theatre Department.
