Students being inducted are part of the top 20 percent of students at University of Delaware. Although diverse in major and background, these new members share the common NSCS values of scholarship, leadership and service. In addition to scholarships, members will have access to career and internship opportunities, leadership development training, professional and peer networking, and community service opportunities.

In other news, it was reported that the UD NSCS chapter has achieved gold award status, an honor awarded at the society's Honor Gala held Aug. 15 in Washington, D.C.

For Rachel Price, the NSCS national staff representative who works with UD's chapter officers, the award comes as no surprise. “The members of University of Delaware's chapter are amazing,” said Price. “They have gone above and beyond by creating innovative programs and expanding and improving existing programs and have provided an exceptional experience for their members. They have truly embraced the ideals of NSCS.”

The officers represented the UD chapter at Convention 2009 and accepted the award on behalf of fellow officers and members. The chapter will also receive a $250 Chapter Scholarship and a letter to UD President Patrick Harker to commemorate attaining gold status.

The National Society of Collegiate Scholars is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies and is the nation's only interdisciplinary honors organization to invite first- and second-year college students.
