7:54 a.m., Sept. 24, 2009----The Delaware Association for Family and Community Education (FCE) State Day 2009 will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 14, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., at the Newark Country Club. FCE groups from New Castle, Kent and Sussex counties will gather to celebrate this year's theme, “Living a Green Life with FCE.”
The program will include a presentation entitled “Exercise for the Brain” by Anne Camasso, Sussex County Cooperative Extension educator; music by Edward McKeown, a local musician; “What's in a Song?” by Lee Mussoff of the Delaware Humanities Forum; silent and bag auctions; and a luncheon. In addition, state council officers for 2010-11 will be installed and information about living green will be provided.
Preregistration by Oct. 8 is required. Contact the County Extension office for a registration form. The cost to cover materials and luncheon is $25.
“We are hoping current members, past members of Extension Homemakers Clubs and interested individuals will attend this highly fun and educational program,” says Jean Skibinski, long-time FCE member and Extension homemaker. She reminds those who plan to attend that the program will start at 9:30 a.m. and that they should bring a non-perishable food product to State Day as part of a statewide Extension Call to Action issued by Extension Director Jan Seitz.
The Cooperative Extension food drive is collecting items for the Food Bank of Delaware. Cooperative Extension has been collecting canned food products as well as harvesting vegetables for the Food Bank in order to combat hunger in Delaware. In New Castle County alone, more than 1,000 pounds of food have been collected.
For more information about FCE or Cooperative Extension, contact Maria Pippidis at (302) 831-1239 at the New Castle County Cooperative Extension Office, or visit the Cooperative Extension Web site.
