Green Liaisons will share information about environmental sustainability initiatives and opportunities while identifying improvements in their units in support of the University's Climate Action Plan.

The University of Delaware has adopted one of the most aggressive plans in the nation to reduce its carbon emissions. But as the plan itself states, UD will only be successful if the entire community is involved in these efforts.

The mission of the Green Liaison Program (GLP) is to achieve this involvement by promoting an ethic of environmental responsibility campus-wide.

Green Liaisons will be asked to do the following:

  • Raise awareness about environmentally-friendly activities and behaviors;
  • Act as informational channels regarding University environmental programs and initiatives; and
  • Identify and initiate environmental projects in academic and administrative units and within student groups across the University.

The GLP will be primarily an electronic effort maintained through monthly e-letters featuring a theme, successful projects and green advice. The UD Sustainability Task Force will also offer several “Lunch and Learn” workshops each semester on various topics and available to all Green Liaisons.

GLP volunteers will be invited for lunch (11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.) and an orientation (12:30-2:30 p.m.) on Campus Sustainability Day, Wednesday Oct. 21. Attendance is encouraged but not required in order to volunteer.

During the GLP orientation, volunteers will learn more about UD's sustainability initiatives and have an opportunity to expand their knowledge in areas such as green purchasing; energy conservation, single stream recycling, waste disposal and transportation. Liaisons who complete the orientation will be presented with certificates.

Volunteers can sign up on this Web site by Oct. 2. Only one liaison is needed for each office, unit, department or student group.

For more information about GLP or the orientation on Oct. 21, send an e-mail to [ud-sustainability@udel.edu].
