9:54 a.m., Oct. 21, 2009----The Rumi Forum University of Delaware Chapter, in collaboration with American-Turkish Friendship Association, will host the inaugural Friendship Dinner at 7 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 5, at the Hilton Christiana.
The theme of this year's dinner is “The Necessity of Intercultural Dialog.” There will be several distinguished speakers, including Delaware State Rep. Michael Ramone (R-21st District). The dinner is not a fundraising event.
Representatives of the Rumi Forum University of Delaware Chapter and American-Turkish Friendship Association said they believe the event will create a unique opportunity to bring a sense of friendship and understanding among different cultures.
Rumi Forum, established in 1999 by Turkish-American community in Washington, D.C., is a non-governmental, non-profit organization with the mission to foster intercultural and interfaith dialog, stimulate thinking and exchange of opinions on supporting and fostering democracy and peace all over the world, and to provide a common platform for education and information exchange.
Rumi Forum organizes events such as intercultural dialog trips to Turkey, annual Congressional Ramadan Iftar dinner, Dialog Awards ceremony on Capitol Hill, conferences, and luncheons.
Adnan Ozsoy, a University of Delaware Ph.D. student in the Department of Computer and Information Sciences, is president of the Rumi Forum UD Chapter.
The American Turkish Friendship Association (ATFA) is a non-profit non-governmental organization with no political affiliation dedicated to addressing the social and cultural needs of Turkish and American friends living in the Washington Metropolitan Area. ATFA aims to promote of understanding of American and Turkish cultures, and to foster integrity through cultural and educational activities. Providing an inspiring atmosphere for the friends and helping them getting better integrated with their local communities are some of the primary goals of the association.
