Saponaro and Padron conducted research at UD this summer, working with Michela Taufer, assistant professor of computer and information sciences.

The Panoff Awards promote “excellence in student-driven exploration in science made possible through the use of computation” and recognize “students who have woven insight and discovery together through the use of computational modeling, simulation and/or data analysis.”

Saponaro and Padron have been invited to attend the SC09 conference, to be held Nov. 14-20 in Portland, Ore.

At UD, the students worked on improving numerical reproducibility and stability in large-scale numerical simulations on Global Processing Units. “They did terrific teamwork, and they deserve this prestigious recognition,” Taufer said.

Saponaro was a UD Summer Scholar, supported by one of Taufer's grants, which included research experience for undergraduates.

Padron received support from the Computer Research Association's Distributed Research Experiences for Undergraduates program.
