9:15 a.m., Oct. 6, 2009----The inaugural University of Delaware Geospatial Research Day (GRD) will be held Thursday, Nov. 19, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., in the Trabant University Center Multipurpose Rooms. This free event will showcase UD researchers in their use of geospatial techniques and technologies.
Geospatial research applies GIS (geographic information sciences or geographic information systems), which involves the use of digital geographic information for hypothesis testing, visualization, resource management, and optimization to varied research questions involving space. Examples of geospatial research include precision agriculture guided by aerial photography or hydrologic modeling based on stream flow measurements.
Presenters at Geospatial Research Day will include UD faculty, staff and students. Event organizers said they hope to attract a diverse group, from students just getting started, to the faculty researcher who uses GIS in the research and teaching, to the GIS professional who brings 20 years of highly varied experience.
Registration, although free, is required for this event and can be completed online.
Geospatial Research Day is sponsored by UD's College of Education and Public Policy; College of Earth, Ocean, and Environment; Geography Department; Information Technologies; University Library; and the School of Urban Affairs and Public Policy.
The Center for Applied Demographics, Institute for Public Administration-Water Resources Agency, Delaware Geological Survey, University Library and IT's Research and Data Management Services are organizing the event.
