10:47 a.m., Oct. 5, 2009----The University of Delaware will celebrate Parents and Family Weekend Oct. 9-11, with a variety of special events including a Colonial Athletic Association football game and a comedy show featuring Colin Quinn.

Friday
Among Friday's featured activities will be a comedy concert by Colin Quinn, along with Chip Esten and Kathy Kinney of Whose Live Anyway? They will perform at 8 p.m. in the Bob Carpenter Center. Quinn is creator and host of Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn and is well known for his work on Saturday Night Live.
Also, there will be a Master Players Concert Series presentation titled “I Left My Heart in Newark” at 8 p.m. in Mitchell Hall.
Friday sports events include a volleyball match pitting the Blue Hens against Hofstra University at 4 p.m. in the Carpenter Sports Building and a women's soccer match against James Madison University at the Delaware Mini-Stadium. The women's club ice hockey team will take on California University of Pennsylvania at 8:15 p.m. in the Gold Ice Arena.
Other Friday activities include campus tours, a ghost and history tour and ice skating.
Saturday
The football game, to be preceded by a Blue Hen Tailgate, will pit UD against the University of Massachusetts. Kickoff will be at 6 p.m., Saturday at Delaware Stadium. The tailgate party will be held from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Delaware Fieldhouse and will feature music by the Royal Palm Steel Band and the UD and UMass marching bands.
Among other Blue Hen teams, men's soccer will meet Hofstra University at 10 a.m. at the Delaware Mini-Stadium, volleyball will face Northeastern University at noon at the Carpenter Sports Building and the swimming and diving teams will face Howard University at 1 p.m., also at the Carpenter Sports Building.
Other activities include a town hall meeting with UD President Patrick Harker at 9:30 a.m. at Mitchell Hall and two special information sessions, one on the UD Climate Action Plan, presented by John Byrne, director of the Center for Energy and Environmental Policy, and the other titled “The First Year Out: Understanding American Teens After High School,” presented by Timothy Clydesdale of the College of New Jersey. Byrne will speak at 11:15 a.m. in Multipurpose Room C of the Trabant University Center and Clydesdale at 11:15 a.m. in the Trabant University Center Theatre.
Also at 11:15, in Mitchell Hall, Judson Laipply will present a motivational program titled “Life is Change.”
UD's seven colleges have planned open houses. The College of Agriculture and Natural Resources will have an open house from 1-3 p.m. at Townsend Hall; the College of Arts and Sciences from 1-3 p.m. at Memorial Hall; the College of Earth, Ocean, and Environment from 1-3 p.m. at 208 Gore Hall; the College of Engineering from 1-2:30 p.m. at P.S. du Pont Hall; the College of Health Sciences from 1-3 p.m. in McDowell Hall and at laboratories across campus; the College of Education and Public Policy from 1-3 p.m. in Alison Hall West; and the Lerner College of Business and Economics from 1-3 p.m. in Purnell Hall, with presentations at the Exelon Trading Center and the Vita Nova restaurant.
Ghost and history tours will be offered in the evening on the Green.
Sunday
A brunch University-style will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Pencader, Rodney and Russell dining halls, and the women's soccer team will battle Virginia Commonwealth University at 1 p.m. at the Delaware Mini-Stadium. There also will be ice skating at the Fred Rust Ice Arena.
