Fans are encouraged to donate a new, unwrapped, non-violent toy for boys and girls ages 4-12 in the Bob Carpenter Center lobby from 12:30 p.m. through halftime of the game, which begins at 2 p.m.

All toys that are received will be given to children at the Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington during the holiday season.

Founded in 1940, the hospital is an 180-bed facility that offers all specialties of pediatric medicine, surgery, and dentistry. Children from birth through age 17 with acute, chronic, and complex health problems benefit from the threefold mission established by the hospital's founders: excellence in patient care, education, and research.

Suggested toys for fans to donate can include: Children's books (nursery rhymes, stories) coloring books and crayons, toy trucks, building blocks, activity blankets, musical toys, puzzles, board games, stuffed animals, push and pull toys, dolls, Legos, play make-up, costume jewelry, drawing sets, model sets, CDs and DVDs, and sports team clothing and memorabilia.

Popular theme ideas include: Disney, Dora the Explorer, Sesame Street, Winnie-the-Pooh, Leap Frog, Lego, Barbie, Raggedy Ann, Strawberry Shortcake, Crayola, Tonka, Transformers, Spiderman, Superman, Hannah Montana and Star Wars.

The Blue Hens are 1-2 to open the season following a 97-94 double overtime win over the University of Pennsylvania on Saturday night at the Palestra. To follow the team, go to UD's BlueHens.com athletics Web site.
