The American Cancer Society Relay For Life is an overnight community celebration in which individuals and teams camp out, barbecue, dance, and take turns walking around a track relay-style to raise funds, while celebrating the lives of those who have had cancer, remembering those lost, and fighting back against the disease.

At nightfall, participants light hundreds of luminaria around the track in a moving ceremony to honor cancer survivors as well as friends and family members lost to the disease.
The American Cancer Society Relay For Life represents hope that those lost to cancer will never be forgotten, that those who face cancer will be supported, and that one day cancer will be eliminated.

Students, faculty and the community are encouraged to attend the kickoff event in order to register their teams, receive fundraising tips, and to have any questions they have about the event answered. Last year, UDs Relay For Life surpassed its goal, raising $150,000. This year, the target amount is $165,000.

The kickoff event will be celebrated with a “hippie-ish” Peace Out Cancer theme. Free food and beverages will be provided, while several local bands will provide entertainment. The groups include: Still Moon Servants, The Common Room, James Proctor, Shane Palkovitz, and the Deltones.
