9:28 a.m., Nov. 23, 2009----Phi Kappa Phi will hold its 2010 initiation ceremony for new members on Friday, May 7, 2010, at 5 p.m. at the Trabant University Center Theatre, it has been announced by William B. Farquhar, president of the University of Delaware Chapter of the Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society and associate professor in the Department of Health, Nutrition and Exercise Sciences.

The ceremony will also tentatively be followed by a dinner in the Trabant Center honoring the new inductees.

More than 150 new junior class members and new graduating senior class members as well as new faculty and administrators are expected to be inducted.

Plans are underway for Phi Kappa Phi's graduate fellowship competition and the undergraduate research essay competition, with the winners to be announced in the spring. The chapter fellowship award is $1,000; the chapter essay competition award is $500. For more information see the fellowship award Web page or the essay competition Web page.

Phi Kappa Phi officers of the University of Delaware Chapter are: William B. Farquhar, Department of Health, Nutrition and Exercise Sciences; Cristina R. Bacuta, Department of Mathematical Sciences; Susan T. Serra, Office of Service Learning; U. Carl Toensmeyer, Department of Food and Resource Economics; Susan Brynteson, Library; and Russell E. Murray, Jr., Department of Music.

Phi Kappa Phi is the oldest and largest honorary society in the nation. Its mission is to recognize and encourage superior scholarship in all academic disciplines. The University of Delaware Chapter was founded in 1905.
