The Delaware Teachers of Science DTS is a chapter of the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA). Besides receiving the monthly newsletter, DTS members have access to professional development and leadership development opportunities and networking events.

Producing topical articles for the newsletter for the 230-plus member DTS is part of is part of the Teaching Science in the Secondary School (SCEN 491) for pre-service science teacher students at UD.

“We are just beginning this arrangement, although many of our graduates are DTS members,” said Kathryn Scantlebury, professor of chemistry and biochemistry, said. “The intent is to make a stronger connection between the University's science teacher education program and the science teachers of Delaware, and to provide the pre-service teachers an opportunity to connect science to the Delaware community.”

Articles on timely topics by UD students in the Fall 2009 DTS Newsletter include “H1N1 Information,” by Meredith Brigham, a senior biological sciences education major, and “How Is Science Transformed in the Teacher Education Community? Student Assessment,” by Jessica Best, a senior earth science education major.
