3:07 p.m., Nov. 2, 2009----Newark Police are investigating two incidents involving UD students that occurred on Halloween night -- an armed robbery and a residential burglary..
Armed robbery
In the first incident, Newark Police are seeking three suspects in connection with the armed robbery of a 20-year-old female UD student that occurred around 1:53 a.m., Sunday, Nov. 1, in the 200 block of East Main Street, near Farmers Lane.
The student was walking on Farmers Lane, near Monro Mufflers when she saw three individuals sitting on a curb. As she walked near them, they stood up. One of the suspects pushed her to the ground, stood over her and displayed a black handgun. The suspect stole her purse and contents and the three then fled on foot toward Delaware Avenue.
All three suspects were described as wearing blue jeans, gray hooded sweatshirts with the hoods up and light-colored face masks that concealed their faces from the eyes down. The main suspect, who had the gun, is described as an 18- to 22-year-old man, 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighing 200 pounds. The second suspect is a woman, 5 feet 9 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighing approximately 130-140 pounds. There is no description of the third suspect.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Detective Nicholas Sansone at (302) 366-710, ext. 135, or by e-mail at [Nik.Sansone@cj.state.de.us]. Residential burglary
At 3:13 a.m., Sunday, Nov. 1, Newark Police responded to a residence occupied by two female UD students in the first block of South Chapel Street. One of the students said she was asleep on a couch in the living room when she awoke to see an unknown man standing there. When he laid down next to her, she went upstairs to find another roommate. When the suspect followed her up the stairs, the two students confronted him and asked him to leave. He eventually left the residence.
Approximately 40 minutes later, the two students were on the second floor of the residence when a hallway light shut off. The suspect had re-entered the residence. The students locked themselves in a room and called 911. When officers arrived on the scene, the suspect was gone. Later it was learned that three laptop computers were stolen from the residence along with cash.
The suspect is described as a college-age man with dark crewcut hair, an average build with a gut, wearing a royal blue T-shirt with unknown writing on the front and blue jeans. He appeared to be intoxicated.
Persons with information about this incident should contact Detective Greg D'Elia at (302) 366-7110, ext. 132 or by e-mail at [Greg.Delia@cj.state.de.us].
