From September 2008 through May, members of Gamma Sigma Sigma raised more than $9,500 for the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation, and also completed over 5,400 hours of service during the spring semester alone.

In addition to many fundraisers held at establishments along Main Street in Newark, the sisters raised more than $2,000 for the cause at their annual clothing sale in the Trabant University Center.

On Nov. 1, members of Gamma Sigma Sigma presented a check to Lisa Taylor, a representative from the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation's Philadelphia chapter. “This was a very momentous event and the culmination of a year's worth of hard work and dedication to the foundation's cause,” according to a Gamma Sigma Sigma representative, who said the money will be put towards not only research aimed at finding a cure for colitis but also to help treat those living with the disease.

Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis are chronic disorders that cause inflammation of the digestive tract and affect more than 500,000 Americans every year. The Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America is a non-profit, volunteer-driven organization dedicated to finding the cure for Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis.

The Beta Gamma chapter of Gamma Sigma Sigma works diligently every year to raise money for various causes. The sisters donate money they have raised through community service and fundraisers to a specific philanthropy they have chosen to support.

This year, Gamma Sigma Sigma is working to raise money for Autism Delaware and also has chosen to support a Delaware family with a child with autism.
