Presentations

John Courtright, professor of communication, presented the paper "Re-Discovering Human Communication Behavior” at the 95th annual National Communication Association Convention, Nov. 12-15, Chicago.

Juliet Dee, associate professor of communication, presented the papers "Abuse of Privilege: Ulterior Motives, Retaliation, and Turning Reporters Into 'Fall Guys' When They Protect Confidential Sources" and "Cuz It's My Computer -- That's Why: When Private Ownership Trumps Free Speech." She also participated in the sessions titled "What Will Your Life Be Like in Five Years? Without Freedom of Expression It May Not Matter" and "Getting Published in NCA Journals and Annuals" at the 95th annual National Communication Association Convention, Nov. 12-15, Chicago.

Nancy Signorielli, professor of communication, participated in the session titled "Mass Communication Five Years Out: Examining the Past, Present, and Future of Mass Communication Pedagogy" at the 95th annual National Communication Association Convention, Nov. 12-15, Chicago.

Gabriele Bauer, associate director, Center for Educational Effectiveness, “Instructional Grants: Change Agents for Both Teaching Enhancement and Accountability,” and “Preparing for Faculty Roles in a Time of Change,” Professional and Organizational Development Network in Higher Education Conference, Oct. 28-Nov. 1, Houston.

A. Scott Andres, Delaware Geological Survey, presented “Agricultural Water Use in Delaware” and “Rapid Infiltration Basin Systems Research Introduction” at the Delaware Rural Water Association and Delaware Clean Water Advisory Council, Nov. 18, Milford, Del.

Lawrence Nees, professor of art history, presented a lecture at the recent Hamadbin Khalifa Symposium on Islamic Art, “And Diverse are Their Hues: Colour in Islamic Art and Culture.” This was a major international conference jointly sponsored by Virginia Commonwealth University, VCU Arts, VCU Qatar, and the Qatar Foundation, and hosted by the University of Cordoba and the city of Cordoba. There were 12 lectures, selected from among dozens of applications, with speakers from the United States, Spain, Egypt, India, and Pakistan. It was widely covered in the Spanish press, and Nees also participated in a news conference.

Alice D. Ba, associate professor of political science and international relations and East Asian Studies, published "Regionalism's Multiple Negotiations: ASEAN in East Asia," Cambridge Review of International Affairs 22(3): 345-367.

M. Dina Giambi, assistant director for Library Technical Services, University of Delaware Library, Association for Library Collections and Technical Services Annual Report 2008-9, Library Resources and Technical Services, Vol. 53, No. 4, pages 216-218. She served as president of the Association for Library Collections and Technical Services (ALCTS), a major division of the American Library Association, for 2008-2009.
