As part of the HealthyU Employee Wellness Program's “Wellness Fair” last fall, Dining Services conducted a farmers market featuring local fruits and vegetables. The participation and feedback from that event were overwhelmingly positive, and Dining began looking into the idea of a weekly market.

“The reaction to the Wellness Fair market was amazing,” Ryan Boyer, marketing manager for Dining Services, said. “There was no doubt that a farmers market was something everyone around campus would get excited about. We have had opportunities over the past several weeks to begin letting the University students and employees know, and they light up the second they hear what's being planned.”

The weekly UD Farmers Market will offer locally sourced seasonal produce. Information about the farms and the farmers where that week's items were grown and harvested will be available to patrons.

Each farmer will have a short bio about his or her farm and where it is located. The bios will then be put on a map to show patrons where the produce is coming from. Some of the farmers are expected to stop by the Farmers Market while it's in operation.

Dining Services will be participating in the “UDid It” picnic on June 7 to provide details and further information about the Farmers Market and other Dining Services programs.
