Students who switch their email within the next three weeks will also be able to move all of the mail that is currently on UD Webmail. Students who simply wait for the switch will lose access to any of their mail at mail.udel.edu.

After they switch, students will continue to use their UDelNet IDs and passwords to log in, but access to their mail will be through Gmail.

Gmail offers large storage capacity (more than 94 times the current UD email quota), voice and video chat, mobile access, advanced spam and virus protection, and a powerful search.

And for the first time, students retain their @udel.edu e-mail addresses after they graduate and can continue to use Gmail to access that e-mail.

In addition to Gmail, Google Apps @UDel.edu provides:

  • Google Calendar - for organizing schedules;
  • Google Docs - for creating and sharing documents (formatted text, spreadsheets, presentations);
  • Google Sites - for creating and sharing Web pages; and
  • Google Talk - for communicating with others via text, voice, and video messaging.

Students who currently forward their UD Webmail to another provider may continue to do so without changing anything. Because Google Apps @UDel.edu uses the UDelNet ID and password, forwarding will work as it always has.

More information is available at the IT Google Apps @UDel.edu website. This site offers help with using Google Apps @UDel.edu on the Web, with a mail client like Thunderbird or MacMail, or with a smartphone. It also provides extensive, frequently updated FAQs.
