3:35 p.m., May 4, 2010----Students of the University of Delaware's Venture Development Center (VDC) will host the first “Be Your Own Boss” festival on Thursday, May 13. The event, which was designed in order to help students gain an understanding of the various ways their fellow classmates have chosen to represent the entrepreneurial spirit of UD, will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the outdoor patio of Trabant University Center.

The event will feature a host of undergraduate and graduate businesses and student organizations that have dedicated their time and effort to launching their own innovative ideas. Among the attendees will be several tenant companies of the VDC, including Gotta B.Y.O.M., College Taxi, Hungry Hens, UD Houses and Captured Concepts. Various UD Registered Student Organizations and student bands will also be present.

The VDC is an applied learning laboratory housed in the Lerner College of Business and Economics.

At the VDC, UD students can pursue entrepreneurship through the creation of a new business. Individual students and participants receive administrative office space that enables them to concentrate on developing their business concepts.

Because the facility is an extension of the entrepreneurship programs offered by UD, students also receive intensive mentoring and a variety of other assistance.

The VDC aims to express its efforts to a multitude of students from a variety of schools, departments and collegiate backgrounds and welcomes all students to attend next Thursday's event.
