And now, thanks to the UD Center for Educational Effectiveness (CFEE) and the Office of Graduate and Professional Education, a special Teaching Conference Travel Fellowship for Doctoral Candidates is available. The travel fellowship is designed to support the participation of UD doctoral candidates at the Lilly-East Conference, which provides future faculty with the opportunity to refine their teaching skills, grow as teacher-scholars in the discipline, deepen their understanding of faculty roles in different institutional contexts, and network with faculty across East Coast institutions.

These are just a few of the testimonials provided by past Lilly-East doctoral participants from UD:

“Lilly-East provides students with innovative ideas and a network of support that they will need to confidently pursue the academic route in a time of limited funding and scary odds.”

“I am currently in a tenure-track academic appointment. I know that participating in the Lilly-East conference was an opportunity that better prepared me for the job market and my current faculty appointment. I believe that this opportunity made me more competitive on the job market and better prepared for my academic career. As a result, I think that it strengthened the value of a Ph.D. from the University of Delaware because I was viewed as a better candidate and junior faculty member.”

“Lilly-East is an eye-opening experience that allowed me to interact with faculty across disciplines as well as discover diverse teaching practices that I was able to apply immediately to my current teaching appointment.”

Proposals are due by Friday, April 9. For more information, contact Gabriele Bauer, associate director of the CFEE, at [gabriele@udel.edu].

“We look forward to supporting our UD doctoral candidates in their role as teacher-scholars,” Bauer says. “They are resident experts on innovative, active learning-based pedagogy. In collaboration with the Office of Graduate and Professional Education, we look forward to seeing the instructional impact that results from this professional experience.”
