Charles Elson, Edgar S. Woolard Jr. Chair and director of the John L. Weinberg Center for Corporate Governance, was quoted in a July 22 Bloomberg news service story about the government as a shareholder in major financial institutions following bailouts. “They've got an 800-pound gorilla in the room,” Elson said. “The government can't act as a passive shareholder.” Elson also was quoted in a July 22 Reuters story about the “say on pay” issue, in which investors would have more input into executive compensation. “I think with say on pay, it's be careful what you wish for,” Elson told Reuters. “I don't think it will be the solution to the problem.”
Jack Gelb, chairperson of the Department of Animal and Food Sciences, was quoted in a July 21 KWY Newsradio story about federal funding received for avian flu research. "The money we've received recently will go to look toward the future in upgrading our current biocontainment facilities, where we do a phenomenal amount of testing on poultry diseases every year," Gelb said. Delaware's Congressional delegation announced the avian flu research funding as part of a total of $1.2 million in federal funds for biotechnology research at the University of Delaware. That announcement was highlighted on WDEL in Wilmington, WJZ in Baltimore and WGMD in Lewes.

STEP is designed to help young people with disabilities learn skills to help the gain independence. "Some people in the system, even though they are caring, compassionate professionals, enable students to become dependent," Bain told the newspaper. "Our attitude is 'Go for it, but what will it take to get you there?' We find that many of them have goals that are very realistic but are not sure how to get there."
Anna Stoops, an extension agent with UD Cooperative Extension, was quoted in a July 20 Cape Gazette story about farming, gardening and the Delaware Does More program designed to provide fresh produce to neighbors in need. “Now is also the perfect time for both novice and experienced gardeners to begin looking toward the fall harvest,” Stoops said, adding, “Fall brings an abundance of late cabbage, snap beans, broccoli, cauliflower, fall cucumbers and more.”
