Krzysztof Szalewicz, professor of physics and astronomy, was featured in a July 9 News Journal story about the “kolos” supercomputer on campus.

David Suisman, assistant professor of history, was featured in a July 7 Forbes magazine story about his book Selling Sounds: The Commercial Revolution in American Music.

Jill Biden, a UD alumna and wife of Vice President Joe Biden, was featured in a July 7 story in The New York Times concerning community colleges, which she said are an important American export.

Ed Whereat, program coordinator in the College of Earth, Ocean, and Environment, Maddy Russell, a graduate student in the college, and Nicole Minni, a policy specialist in the Institute for Public Administration, were cited in a July 6 Cape Gazette story about their work as volunteers in posting signs to warn motorists of diamondback terrapin crossings near the Delaware beaches.

Heather Lehman, a junior in the College of Arts and Sciences and the new Miss Delaware, was the subject of a feature story in the July 4 News Journal.

Marcia Watson, associate director of the UD Academic Center in Wilmington, was quoted in a July 4 News Journal story about the state's SEED scholarship program. "We prepare students for their bachelor's degrees very seriously in their sophomore year," Watson said of UD's Associate in Arts Program, which is held at UD Academic Centers at Delaware Technical and Community College campuses in Wilmington, Dover and Georgetown.

Alain Noghiu, doctoral student in the College of Education and Public Policy, wrote an opinion piece in the July 3 News Journal about the media, which quickly turned its attention from protests in Iran to the death of pop star Michael Jackson. “As we indulge our sentiments and order Michael Jackson's greatest hits on Amazon, let us weigh this act in light of the people of Iran struggling, and maybe dying, for freedom and justice,” Noghiu wrote.

James Corbett, associate professor of marine policy, was cited in a July 3 CNBC European Business story about ship emissions and their impact on human health.

Richard Wool, professor of chemical engineering, and Erman Senoz, a doctoral student, were featured in a July 2 story in The Economist and a July 5 story in the News Journal concerning research on the use of waste chicken feathers to store hydrogen for fuel cells.

Joe Flacco, former quarterback for the Blue Hens football team, was featured and Head Coach K.C. Keeler quoted extensively in a July 2 Mid-Atlantic Sports Network (MASN) story on the Baltimore Ravens star, who is preparing for his second season in the National Football League.

John H. Talley, director of the Delaware Geological Survey and state geologist, and Stefanie Baxter, geologist, were quoted in a News Journal story regarding the earthquake on July 1. They were also interviewed by Channel 10, Channel 6 and many other regional media outlets to discuss the event.

Charles Elson, Edgar S. Woolard Jr. Chair and director of the John L. Weinberg Center for Corporate Governance, was quoted in June 30 Bloomberg News story about “celebrity” members of corporate boards of directors. “Those kinds of people, celebrities, add little to the boards on which they serve. It's a problem,” Elson said. Elson also was quoted in a June 30 Bloomberg News story and in June 29 Wall Street Journal and New York Times stories about the return of Apple CEO Steve Jobs following medical leave.

Sue Snider, professor of animal and food sciences, was quoted in a June 30 News Journal story about summer safety. She discussed ways to avoid food poisoning.

Douglas Tallamy, chairperson of the Department of Entomology and Wildlife Ecology and author of the book Bringing Nature Home: How You Can Sustain Wildlife With Native Plants, was cited in a June 29 Milford (Conn.) Daily Times story about the benefits of insects.

Nora Crist, a UD alumna, was cited in a June 29 Washington Post story about women in agriculture. Her mother has a farm near Ellicott City, Md.
