The symposium, organized by Prasad Dhurjati, professor of chemical engineering, on behalf of the University's Department of Chemical Engineering, is free and open to the public. The campus community is invited to attend.

Registration will begin at 8 a.m., with welcoming remarks by Michael Chajes, dean of the College of Engineering, and Norman Wagner, Alvin B. and Julia O. Stiles Professor of Chemical Engineering and chairperson of the department, at 8:50.

A session on Russell's contributions in research and education will be held from 9-10:15 a.m., and a session on his 50 years of service from Alberta, Canada, to Delaware will be held from 10:30-11:45 a.m. Following lunch, there will be an open session of reminiscences from 1:45-3:45 and a reception beginning at 4.

Russell, who joined the UD faculty in 1964, is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and a Fellow of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE).

He is the recipient of a number of other honors and awards, including UD's Francis Alison Award. Earlier this year, he received the Lifetime Achievement in Chemical Engineering Pedagogical Scholarship Award from the American Society of Engineering Education (ASEE).

At UD, Russell has served as director of the Institute of Energy Conversion, chair of the Department of Chemical Engineering, associate dean and acting dean of the College of Engineering, and, most recently, vice provost for research.

To recognize Russell, a special endowment fund - the T.W. Fraser Russell Undergraduate Enrichment Endowment - has been created. For additional information or to make a contribution, see the Web site.

Registration for the symposium can be completed online.
