8:26 a.m., July 24, 2009----George Luther, Maxwell P. and Mildred H. Harrington Professor of Oceanography at the University of Delaware, had the highest percent increase in total citations in the field of geosciences between 1998 and 2008, according to an analysis of citation data completed by Essential Science Indicators (ESI).

Luther, a professor in UD's College of Earth, Ocean, and Environment (CEOE), had 77 papers cited nearly 1,700 times in the time period analyzed.

ESI is a Web-based compilation of science indicators and trend data derived from Thomson Reuters databases, focusing on highly cited papers, authors, organizations, journals, and nations across a wide variety of fields.
