Groce works for Associate Provost Joseph DiMartile and Assistant Provost Terry Whittaker and is involved in admissions and the registrar's office. Among her duties as liaison, she helps with new hires, new projects and keeps time records.

A year ago when the University Visitor's Center opened, she was involved in the move, getting operations up and running in the new location.

Groce, who began working at the University 28 years ago with time out when her children were growing up, said she is pleased and honored by the award and that she enjoys working for UD.

She first worked for the Department of Biological Sciences and later for the Office of Human Resources and has been in the Office of the University Registrar since 1991.

Working for UD is a family tradition, she said. Her grandfather worked in what is now Facilities; her mother, Fay Wertman, was in the Department of Music; and her daughter, Jessica Matson, currently works in Student Housing.

Letitia Toto, administrative assistant in the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid, was among those who nominated Groce. She wrote that Groce is a professional who guided her in many ways and was always willing to lend a hand, adding that she has “an extremely busy and demanding job.”

Teresa Clark, staff assistant in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, wrote, “Wendy is a consummate professional -- always on time, accurate, helpful and pleasant to work with.”

Groce has willingly taken on new projects in the new location, according to Clark, that “have helped to make our new building feel like a great place to be. I feel that everyone in the building appreciates Wendy's help.”
