The bicycle is owned by a 59-year-old woman who is blind. The bicycle enabled her to enjoy a bicycle ride from the back seat, while her friend steered from the front.

The bike, which had been chained to a fence, was discovered missing at 8 a.m., July 1. It is possible that the fence was manipulated in a way to allow the removal of the bike without cutting the chain or lock. Valued at $1,000, the bike is a red Huffy Savannah tandem, with black seats. A silver air pump was attached, and the locking chain may still be on the bike frame.

An abandoned bicycle was found near the location of the theft, presumably left by the thief, police say. That bike is a blue Huffy Stone Mountain bike, and it is being held by the Newark Police Department for safekeeping

To report information about this incident or to claim the abandoned bicycle, call the Newark Police at (302) 366-7111 or text information to 302NPD and send your tip to TIP411 (847411).
