11:09 a.m., Jan. 5, 2010----Filmmaker Barry Jenkins will present a screening of his film Medicine for Melancholy on the University of Delaware campus on Wednesday, Jan. 13. Jenkins wrote and directed the award-winning film, which New York Times critic A.O. Scott hailed as one of the best films of 2009.

Jenkins will take questions from the audience after the film's screening. The film begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Trabant University Center Theatre. It is free and open to the public. Jenkins' appearance is part of UD's Winter Indie Film Series.

Medicine for Melancholy, Jenkins' debut feature about a one-night-stand, stars Wyatt Cenac, who has appeared on The Daily Show, Tracey Heggins and the city of San Francisco.

About Barry Jenkins

Barry Jenkins is a writer/director living in San Francisco. His feature film debut Medicine For Melancholy was released in theaters by IFC Films. The film garnered three Spirit Award nominations and a Gotham Award nomination for breakthrough director, as well as awards from the San Francisco International, Sarasota and Woodstock film festivals. New York Times critic A.O. Scott recently named it as one of the best films of 20009. The picture earned Jenkins a slot on Filmmaker Magazine's “25 Faces of Independent Film” list before he embarked on an international festival tour highlighted by screenings at the Vienna and Toronto International film festivals, among others. Recent projects include the shorts Tall Enough and A Young Couple. He is currently developing a feature film with Focus Features.
