8:30 a.m., Jan. 19, 2010----Losing weight continues to be one of the most popular New Year's resolutions. Somehow, in spite of our best intentions, the holiday feasts and the winter weather conspire to make maintaining a healthy weight a challenge, at best.

In the spirit of new beginnings, the University of Delaware's HealthyU Employee Wellness Program invites all UD employees to kick off the new year by attending a free “Well on Your Weigh” mini-expo on Tuesday, Jan. 19, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Multipurpose Rooms B and C of the Trabant University Center.

Various campus departments and local businesses will be on hand to distribute valuable information and tips about healthy eating and being physically active. Vendors will include UD Dining Services, Recreation Services, HealthyU, Leisure Fitness, Diamond State Trekkers, Newark Co-op, Jazzercise and “Living Healthy, Living Well”.

HealthyU staff will conduct several 10-minute strength training workshops throughout the day and employees can try out easy exercises using bands, physioballs and dumbbells. Jazzercize instructors will kick off the noon hour with a fun work-friendly 15-minute routine for all attendees.

Phyllis Bullins, a registered nurse and author of “Living Healthy, Living Well,” will present a 30-minute talk from 12:20-12:50 p.m. about how we can improve and maintain our health and well-being through healthy lifestyle choices.

Employees who have already registered for the “Well on Your Weigh” program are invited to pick up their team T-shirts and have their “before” pictures taken at the event. To learn more, visit the HealthyU Web site or call (302) 831-8388.
