11:58 a.m., Feb. 4, 2010----The University of Delaware Women's Studies Program has announced the 2010 spring semester lecture series, “Research on Race, Ethnicity, and Culture.”

The lectures are free and open to the general public, and will be held from 12:20 to 1:10 p.m. Wednesdays in Room 116 Gore Hall.

The lectures also are part of a one-credit pass/fail course (WOMS/BAMS 298.010), which will hold orientation Feb. 10 with Marie Laberge of the Women's Studies Program and lecture series coordinator. Attendance at orientation is required of all enrolled students.

Lectures are scheduled as follows:

Feb. 17 -- “Latina Body Image,” Sue Cherrin, assistant professor, UD Women's Studies Interdisciplinary Program.

Feb. 24 -- "Pakikibaka: Postcolonial Pets and Portraits," Rene Marquez, UD Department of Art.

March 3 -- “Stereotype and Visual Representation: Gender and Race in Japanese Videogames,” Rachael Hutchinson, assistant professor, Japanese Studies, UD Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures.

March 10 -- “Girls' Literacy, Educational Access and Socio-cultural Issues Affecting Women in Pakistan,” Amna Latif, University of North Carolina, Greensboro.

March 17 -- "Forced to Depend -- A Look into the Lives of Dependent Visa Holders in the U.S.," Pooja Luitel, founder of H4help.org.

March 24 -- “Life after Death -- A Struggle for Survival: The Case of Widows in Nepal,” Samira Luitel, Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu, Nepal.

March 31 -- Spring break

April 7 -- "Too High a Civilization: Amy Levy and the Genius of Jewish Artistry,” Kathleen Slaugh-Sanford, doctoral level student, UD Department of English.

April 14 -- Title forthcoming, Jill Ewing Flynn, UD Department of English.

April 21 -- "Are Women Being Represented Differently in Men's and Women's Magazines?," Jaehee Jung, associate professor, UD Department of Fashion and Apparel Studies.

April 28 -- "Toni Morrison's Song of Solomon and the Recuperation of Zora Neale Hurston," April Pelt, doctoral level student, UD Department of English.

May 5 -- "Body Politics: Black Women Artists," Julie McGee, curator, University Museums.

May 12 -- Final exam for enrolled students only
