Editor's note: This article was updated at 8:55 a.m., Feb. 6. Bus service originally planned to the Rodney Dining Hall has been canceled due to the weather and the state of emergency.
12:06 p.m., Feb. 4, 2010----Based on the latest information from the National Weather Service about the major snowstorm predicted to begin Friday, Feb. 5, the University of Delaware has canceled all public events on Saturday, Feb. 6, is rescheduling final exams for Winter Session and delaying the start of the spring semester by one day allowing students to move into the residence halls on Monday.
The University will remain open Feb. 6, and essential personnel are expected to report.
Public events that are canceled Feb. 6 include:
--Men's basketball game vs. UNC Wilmington, originally scheduled at noon, Feb. 6, in the Bob Carpenter Center has been rescheduled to noon, Sunday, Feb. 7. The women's game, orginally scheduled at 2 p.m. on Sunday, will begin approximately 45 minutes after the conclusion of the men's game. Check bluehens.com for additional information; and
--Chinese New Year celebration, originally scheduled at 7 p.m., Feb. 6, in Mitchell Hall, has been rescheduled to 7 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 20.
Also canceled on Feb. 6 will be public skating at the UD Ice Arenas and the exhibition at the Mineralogical Museum.
Final examinations for Winter Session that were scheduled on Feb. 6 will now be held on Monday, Feb. 8, at the same times and in the same locations. Final exams administered through the UD Online Resource Center will follow the same Monday schedule. If special events are scheduled in these locations on Monday, the final exams will take priority, and the Registrar's Office will contact those event coordinators individually.
On Feb. 6, Kent and Rodney dining halls will be open for brunch from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and dinner from 5-7 p.m. Because of the severe weather and road conditions, bus service will not be provided for Saturday's brunch. Bus service originally scheduled from 4:30-8 p.m. on Saturday for students from Laird Campus to Rodney Dining Hall (not Kent Dining Hall) has been canceled due to the weather and the state of emergency. There will be no other UD shuttle bus service that day.
Residence hall check-in for the spring semester, scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 7, will continue to be held from 2-9 p.m. Early check-in for room changes will be held from 9 a.m.-noon. For students not wanting to travel on Sunday, residence hall check-in is available on Monday, Feb. 8, from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
At this time, Sunday events are expected to be held.
Spring semester classes will begin at 8 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 9, instead of Feb. 8.
Library schedule changes
The University of Delaware Library's Morris Library and the branch libraries have revised hours because of the University schedule changes.
The Morris Library will close at 5 p.m., Friday. Feb. 5 (and not be open until 10 p.m. as originally scheduled).
The Morris Library and branch libraries will be closed on Saturday, Feb. 6.
The Morris Library which was previously scheduled to be closed on Sunday, Feb. 7, will now be open with limited services from 1-5 p.m. The "Special Loop" UD bus route which includes stops at the Morris Library will be in service during this period and the parking lots adjacent to the Morris Library will be cleared. The Commons in the Morris Library (directly inside the entrance to the right) will be open 24/7 throughout the entire weekend.
The Morris Library and branch libraries will open for regular service at 8 a.m., Monday, Feb. 8, when the regular library hours for spring will begin. Library hours are available by calling 302-831-BOOK and on the Library web page.
UD Ice Arenas changes
The public skating session scheduled from 7-9 p.m., Friday, Feb. 5, has been canceled, as have two UD hockey games--one at 9 p.m., Feb. 5, and the other at 5 p.m., Feb. 6.
Academy of Lifelong Learning postpones classes
The Academy of Lifelong Learning is postponing all classes until Tuesday, Feb. 9.
