Detailed information and the four-step procedure for submitting a proposal are available at Limited Submissions on the Research Web site.

NSF 10-523 - Integrative Graduate Education and Research Traineeship Program (IGERT), National Science Foundation. White paper due to UD Research Office by March 4; Full proposal due to NSF by Sept. 30.

The IGERT program has been developed to meet the challenges of educating U.S. Ph.D. scientists and engineers who will pursue careers in research and education, with the interdisciplinary backgrounds, deep knowledge in chosen disciplines, and technical, professional, and personal skills to become, in their own careers, leaders and creative agents for change.

The program is intended to catalyze a cultural change in graduate education, for students, faculty, and institutions, by establishing innovative new models for graduate education and training in a fertile environment for collaborative research that transcends traditional disciplinary boundaries.

It is also intended to facilitate diversity in student participation and preparation, and to contribute to a world-class, broadly inclusive, and globally engaged science and engineering workforce.

NSF 10-529 -Major Research Instrumentation Program (MRI), National Science Foundation. White paper due to UD Research Office by March 1; Full proposal due to NSF by April 21.

The Major Research Instrumentation Program (MRI) serves to increase access to shared scientific and engineering instruments for research and research training in U.S. institutions of higher education, museums, science centers, and not-for-profit organizations.

This program especially seeks to improve the quality and expand the scope of research and research training in science and engineering, by providing shared instrumentation that fosters the integration of research and education in research-intensive learning environments.

Development and acquisition of research instrumentation for shared inter- and/or intra-organizational use are encouraged, as are development efforts that leverage the strengths of private sector partners to build instrument development capacity at academic institutions.

What is a “limited submission”? A variety of agencies offer research, career, scholar, or educational funding opportunities that limit the number of applications that can be submitted from a single institution. An internal selection process has been established by the UD Research Office to assist with these funding opportunities.
