No, not former Blue Hens quarterback Joe Flacco, whose Baltimore Ravens were knocked out of the American Football Conference playoffs by the Indianapolis Colts. And not Ben Patrick, tight end for the Arizona Cardinals, who fell to the New Orleans Saints in a National Football Conference divisional playoff game.

Instead, this UD alum will be wearing black and white stripes as the referee. The National Football League announced Wednesday that a crew headed by UD alumnus Scott Green will officiate the Super Bowl, which pits Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts against Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints, on Sunday, Feb. 7.

Green, a 1973 graduate of the University with a bachelor's degree in criminal justice, has served as an NFL official for 19 years and was a back judge in two earlier Super Bowls -- XXXVI, in which the New England Patriots defeated the St. Louis Rams 20-17, and XXXVIII, in which the Patriots defeated the Carolina Panthers 32-29.

Green is co-founder of the Lafayette Group, a Washington, D.C., lobbying firm that works in the public safety arena. He spent more than a decade as special adviser to the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee and was a Judiciary Committee staff person under then-Sen. Joe Biden from 1985-90.
