The conference will bring together academic and clinical researchers from the DHSA partner institutions -- the University of Delaware, Thomas Jefferson University, Christiana Care Health System, and Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children. Advance on-line registration is required to attend the conference.

One of the goals of the DHSA is to enhance interdisciplinary and translational research through the support of faculty, as well as students, and the sponsorship of pilot grants for research done as collaborative ventures among the partners. The conference will showcase existing joint programs among the DHSA institutions and explore new opportunities to enhance translational research collaborations. Dedicated break-out sessions will focus on key areas, including cancer, cardiovascular health, neurosciences, rehabilitation sciences, bioinformatics, and outcomes and community research.

The keynote address will be delivered by John J. Nance, author, broadcaster, consultant, lawyer, and professional speaker. Nance will present “Why Hospitals Should Fly: The Ultimate Flight Plan to Patient Safety and Quality Care,” which reinvents the cultural foundations of healthcare and brings clarity to the decade-long patient safety and quality care debate.

The forum talk will be presented by Michael Lauer, M.D., director of the Division of Cardiovascular Sciences at the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, and the Ancel Keyes lecturer (AHA) in preventive cardiology. Lauer will discussThe American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 and Comparative Effectiveness Research,” which will improve health outcomes by developing and disseminating evidence-based information to patients, clinicians, and other decision-makers, responding to their expressed needs about which interventions are most effective for which patients under specific circumstances.
