The Blue Hens competed against the top teams in the country, including Miami University of Ohio, which has dominated collegiate skating over the past several years. Before the weekend competition, Miami had not been beaten by any other team domestically in more than six years.

Skating to a “Love Story” theme comprised of all Elton John songs, the University of Delaware ended Miami's streak with a score of 94.66 to 92.94 for the RedHawks. The University of Illinois finished third, scoring 78.40 points, and the University of Wisconsin finished fourth, with 76.58 points.

The University of Delaware's newly formed open collegiate team came home with seventh place out of 13 teams. Other teams representing the University of Delaware Figure Skating Club fared well, with the juvenile team finishing sixth, the intermediate team third and the adult team winning a gold medal.
