3:58 p.m., Dec. 15, 2009----About 25 University of Delaware students and six members of the Dining Services team recently took part in the construction of numerous gingerbread houses that served as decorations for not only the UD dining halls but also for the Ronald McDonald House in Wilmington.

Overall, 22 gingerbread houses were made and distributed to the four dining halls across campus, with the students themselves deciding which houses went to which dining halls.

“We gave the students the option to put their house on a cart heading to the dining hall they visit most frequently,” said Ryan Boyer, marketing director for Dining Services. “I made sure to have the racks sent to the correct dining hall so that they could show their friends which one they built.”

Boyer said the gingerbread houses were on display for a holiday theme meal which took place on Wednesday, Dec. 9, during dinner at each of the dining halls.

In order to drum up participation for the event, Dining Services reached out to the Student Government Association and the Humanitarian Hospitality Society.

Boyer said both groups responded positively to the opportunity and had several representatives come out to participate and join in the activity.

“Dining Services is always looking for ways to get students involved in our activities,” Boyer said. “The gingerbread house building activity provides a chance for Dining Services and the students to have some fun while working together for a good cause.”
