4 p.m., Aug. 25, 2009----Students will not only be bringing backpacks and notebooks to residence halls, they will also be bringing technology. And to help students make the most of the University of Delaware's campus technology, staff from the Office of Information Technologies (IT) will be bringing their expertise to the residence halls.
“IT staff members will be easy for students to find because they will be wearing royal blue T-shirts with 'Tech Help' printed across the back,” Carol Anderer, associate director, IT-Client Support and Services, said.
Every year during move-in days, IT sets up help locations in residence halls to ensure that students get the help they need using campus technology. Directional signs will be posted near the IT help locations.
“The signs, which also display the 'Tech Help' logo on a blue background, will make it easy for students to find our help locations,” Anderer said.
In addition to the residence hall locations, IT staff members will be walking around campus directing students to the help locations, answering questions and distributing “business” cards with information about how to get help during move-in days and throughout the year.
Move-in days for the fall semester are scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 29, and Sunday, Aug. 30. IT's help locations will be set up in the following residence halls:
- Christiana Commons computing site
- Dickinson C/D computing site
- Harrington computing site
- Rodney A/B lounge
IT staff will be on hand from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 29, and noon-5 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 30.
The IT Help Center will also be open from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on both days to answer questions or direct students to an IT staff member who can help with their particular need. Students can call the Help Center at (302) 831-6000 or the Residential Computing Consultant (RCC) help line at (302) 831-8825.
“If students prefer online help, they can connect to the Help Center Web site, which contains a wide range of information about campus technologies,” Anderer said.
For online help about how to connect a computer to UD's network, download a free copy of McAfee's anti-virus software and securely set up a wireless router in a residence hall room, students should connect to the UD computer security Web site.
