2:34 p.m., Aug. 10, 2009----The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning for the region and advises several precautionary/preparedness actions, including staying in an air conditioned location if possible, avoiding strenuous outdoor activities during the heat of the day, keeping hydrated and wearing light colored and loose fitting clothing.

Individuals are reminded to check on the elderly and to keep pets in a cool location with plenty of water.

In addition, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health has posted a Web page that includes information on working in hot environments.
