7:56 a.m., Aug. 26, 2009----New Student Convocation, the opening event of the 2009-2010 academic year, will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Aug. 31, at the Bob Carpenter Center in the University of Delaware's athletic complex off South College Avenue.
Welcoming the Class of 2013, the ceremony is a required event for all new students, and it is the last time the entire class will come together as a group until graduation.
Hosted by Provost Tom Apple, New Student Convocation will follow the academic orientations held by each of UD's seven colleges.
Speakers include UD President Patrick T. Harker and David Tusio, president of the Student Government Association, and there will be a performance by the UD Chorale.
The formal ceremony will be followed by a celebration of all things Blue and Gold, and new students will have an opportunity to enjoy lunch with their classmates.
There will be bus service to and from the Bob Carpenter Center for the event.
