As mandated by the U.S. Constitution, the census is a count of everyone living in the United States, and the data generated from this count is used to apportion congressional seats to states, to distribute more than $400 billion in federal funds each year and to make decisions about what community services to provide.

Your participation is crucial, and it's easy, with this year's census form being the shortest in U.S. history. Be assured that all information gathered is protected by strict confidentiality laws.

Especially for students

For students living in campus residence halls, the forms are being delivered April 5 and April 6 to each complex coordinator and will be placed in student mailboxes, usually by the resident assistants. All resident students are asked to complete the forms by Thursday, April 8, and return them to their resident assistant so that they can be returned to census officials on Friday, April 9.

For students living in fraternities or sororities, census enumerators will deal directly with house presidents to gather the information.

Students living off campus should have received their forms in the U.S. mail, just like the general population, and should return the forms in the envelopes provided.

If you have any questions about the 2010 census, please contact Louise Yeatman, crew leader, Delaware U.S. Census Office, at (302) 388-5840 or via email at [lwyeatman@comcast.net].
