3:52 p.m., Sept. 25, 2008----Newark Police are investigating a home invasion robbery that occurred around 5:30 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 25, in the 100 block of East Cleveland Avenue in Newark.
Three suspects, all armed with handguns, entered the house through an unlocked door, confronted five victims--four of them UD students--and demanded money and drugs. The suspects stole cash and electronic items and then left the residence in an unknown direction. One of the victims, a 20-year-old male UD student, was struck once in the head with a handgun but required no medical attention.
The first suspect is described at 6 feet 1 inch tall, heavyset and wearing a black mask covering half his face, a gray hoodie and black pants. The second suspect is 5 feet 7 inches tall, with a thin build, weighing about 140 pounds and wearing a black ski mask. The third suspect is described as 5 feet 7 inches tall, with a thin build, weighing about 145 pounds and wearing a black bandana-type mask.
Police report that the first two suspects match the descriptions of the suspects in the attempted home invasion robbery on East Park Place that occurred about 24 hours prior to this event.
According to the police, the investigation has revealed that the house on East Cleveland Avenue is used regularly for smoking marijuana and the "the use and/or dealing of illegal drugs at the residences are the common threads among three recent violent crimes occurring at homes."
Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact Detective Scott Rieger at (302) 366-7110, ext. 133 or Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333.
