4:29 p.m., Sept. 10, 2008----A series of 10 lectures focusing on the 2008 election will be held from 12:20-1:10 p.m. beginning Monday, Sept. 15, in 140 Smith Hall.

The series will include UD Election Central, a discussion of the election returns and faculty analysis about the trends and results, from 8 p.m.-midnight, Tuesday, Nov. 4, in the Trabant University Center. The lectures are free and open to the public.

The schedule of lectures includes:

  • Sept. 15: “Public Opinion and the Campaign,” by David Wilson, assistant professor of political science and international relations;
  • Sept. 22: “The Selection Process: Why These 'Battleground States'?” by Joseph Pika, professor of political science and international relations;
  • Sept. 29: “Foreign Policy Visions of the Candidates,” by Stuart Kaufman, professor of political science and international relations;
  • Oct. 6: “Toxic Chemicals and the Campaign,” by Mckay Jenkins, Cornelius A. Tilghman Professor of English;
  • Oct. 13: “Battle for Congress,” by Jason Mycoff, assistant professor of political science and international relations;
  • Oct. 27: “Energy and Climate Policies of the Candidates,” John Byrne, director of the Center for Energy and Environmental Policy;
  • Nov. 3: “Broadcast Media and the Campaign: The Inside Story,” by Ralph Begleiter, Edward and Elizabeth Goodman Rosenberg Professor of Communication;
  • Nov 4: Election Central, 8 p.m-12 a.m. Multipurpose Rooms A, B and C, Trabant University Center;
  • Nov. 10: “The Role of Entertainment Media in the Election,” by Danna Young, assistant professor of communication;
  • Nov. 24: “Women and the Election,” by Marian Palley, professor of political science and international relations and professor of Women's Studies; and
  • Dec. 1: “New Technology and the Campaign,” by Lindsay Hoffman, assistant professor of communication.
